My Gear
Camera Bodies
Canon R5
An incredible all-round camera that’s never really let me down. Whether I’m photographing wildlife, landscapes, or macro subjects, the R5 handles pretty much everything I throw at it.
Lenses
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro
A fantastic 1:1 macro lens for getting properly close to smaller subjects. Sharp, lightweight, and incredibly versatile. While it’s mainly used for macro photography, it also works brilliantly for portraits and picking out compressed details in landscapes.
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM
Probably my most-used lens over the years and for good reason. Extremely versatile, consistently sharp, and capable of handling almost anything from landscapes to general outdoor photography. Deemed from Ken Rockwell as the ‘World’s Sharpest Midrange Zoom’.
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM
An outstanding wildlife lens. Sharp throughout the range, great image stabilisation, and perfect for wildlife photography where flexibility is important.
Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro
A recent addition to the kit. My plan is to use this more for landscapes, environmental shots, and close-up detail work while travelling lighter than I would with the 24-70mm.
Canon EF 1.4x III Extender
Used alongside the 100-400mm when I need extra reach for wildlife photography. Eventually, I’d love to upgrade to the RF 200-800mm — providing the sharpness lives up to expectations.
Accessories
Spare Canon LP-E6NH Batteries
Essential for long days outdoors, especially when photographing wildlife or spending full days on the river.
Benro Mach3 TMA38CL Carbon Fibre Tripod + Benro VX30 Dual Panoramic Ball Head
A much lighter setup than my previous tripod combination while still being solid enough for landscape photography.
Pixel TW-283 Wireless Timer Remote
Originally bought for photographing salmon jumping so I didn’t need to keep my finger on the shutter constantly. Also incredibly useful for wildlife and long exposures.
Peak Design Slide Camera Strap
One of the best camera straps I’ve used. Comfortable, reliable, and built well enough to survive plenty of time outdoors.
Manfrotto Off Road Hiker 30L Backpack
A solid backpack that’s served me well over the years. The only downside is that once the camera compartment is installed, space becomes a little limited for everything else. Sadly now discontinued.
Kase Revolution Magnetic Circular Filter Kit
One of my newer bits of kit — and honestly, I can’t see myself going back to screw-on filters again. The magnetic system makes working outdoors much quicker and easier.
Software
Luminar Neo
My main photo editing software. I moved away from Adobe after subscription prices kept increasing, and Luminar Neo has been a much more affordable alternative while still giving me the tools I need.
