About Me
I’m David — yes, that’s me above in the fly fishing gear (and yes, I do own normal clothes too).
I’m a photographer, angler, outdoor enthusiast, and usually the person standing knee-deep in a river with an action camera strapped to his chest somewhere nearby. Based near the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, most of my time is spent exploring rivers, woodland, countryside, and the occasional Scottish loch with either a fly rod or a camera in hand — although quite rarely both at the same time. If you ever spot someone wandering along a riverbank talking to a GoPro like it’s perfectly normal behaviour, there’s a good chance it’s me.
Fishing has been part of my life since I was 8 years old and remains my biggest passion to this day. I’ll let you in on a little secret though — for years I couldn’t even take hooks out of fishes mouths myself. That finally changed while spinning for sea trout in Scotland, I caught a small saithe, and I think my dad breathed a huge sigh of relief when I eventually plucked up the courage to do it.
These days, rivers have completely taken over. I’ve done plenty of stillwater fishing over the years, but nothing compares to moving water. The only exception is Scotland — put me in front of a wild loch surrounded by mountains and I’m instantly back to staring into dark water imagining what might be lurking beneath the surface.
Photography came later, beginning with an old point-and-shoot film camera from my mum before progressing through digital compacts and eventually into DSLR and mirrorless cameras. What started as curiosity slowly became another creative obsession. These days I mainly photograph landscapes, wildlife, fishing, and the places my adventures take me.
Back in the early 2000s, I started a YouTube channel where I now share my fishing adventures, time outdoors, and the experiences that come with them. For me, both photography and fishing offer the same thing: a way to slow down, switch off from everyday noise, and reconnect with nature and the outdoors.
More recently, I’ve started exploring digital art on an iPad alongside a bit of traditional watercolour painting as another creative outlet inspired by wildlife, fishing, and the natural world.
Looking ahead, I’d love to continue building Daelpix Outdoors into something bigger through photography, filmmaking, artwork, and content creation within the fly fishing and outdoor industry.
And as mentioned elsewhere on this blog, Something BIG is Coming, there’s something completely new planned for the channel in the next couple of years — providing I can find the right job first. Let’s just say it’ll be something very different… and completely OUT OF THIS WORLD.
Thanks for stopping by — and welcome to Daelpix Outdoors.

The word 'dael' comes from Old English (Anglo-Saxon). The new word to replace is 'dale', meaning an open valley. 'Dael' is a synonyn to the word 'valley'.
"Heading outside photography and fishing gives me a place of solitude, somewhere I can go to the countryside, to breath in the fresh clean air that surrounds me. A place where I can think. A place I can get away from the ‘real world’, forgetting all my troubles. Somewhere I can step into nature and tune into the unknown world that is changing around us every second of each day."
